The story of my collection is based on the life story of Vivian Maier, a photographer discovered by chance after her death. Born in New York in 1926, Vivian is known to have taken about 150,000 photographs without no one knowing about it, while making a living as a nanny for many years. Hiding behind her mysterious silhouette, she mostly pictured the children, the events on the streets and the invisible lives of the lower and working class very closely. We had the chance to get to know her when these negative films, which she hid for her lifetime, were found in an auction by chance in 2007.
I was very impressed by the photographs Vivian produced and meticulously collected over a lifetime, compared to all the things we do just to share.
For this reason i've prepared illustrations using various techniques, inspired from her photographs.  I've blended all these with the clothing details from Vivian's self-portraits on certain parts of the collection. While working on this story, I wanted to make anyone feel how special and unique that ordinary seeming silhouettes can be.
Lastly,  I'm happy to share that, with my OBSCURA collection, I was placed 1st at the 30 year anniversary of "Koza Young Fashion Designers Competition", one of the most prestigious fashion design competitions in Turkey.
Thank you for following so far!
